One for the camera - UniKL SUKIPT 2016 officials and athletes taking a shot with the VVIPs

PASIR GUDANG, JOHOR, 24 January 2016 – UniKL Contingent competing in Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi 2016 (SUKIPT 2016) received a grand send-off from its Pro Chancellor and Chairman, YB Datuk Dr. Adham Baba and some top management members in an engagement dinner hosted by UniKL Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology today.

This is the third time UniKL is participating in SUKIPT since the first tournament in 2012. The introduction of SUKIPT is one of the initiatives by the Ministry of Higher Education to promote sports at university level and is organised every two years. Hosted by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor, SUKIPT 2016 will be held from 25 January to 7 February 2016 with UniKL participating with a strong force of 113 male and 42 female athletes. This is twice the number of athletes sent in year 2014 and UniKL becomes the largest contingent among the private institutions competing in SUKIPT 2016.

In his inspiring speech, UniKL President / CEO, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud says, "Do remember that besides being an athlete for UniKL, all of you are also ambassadors of our University. Always carry the badge with pride in your heart. In competitive sports, winning is everything, however you must also value good sportsmanship, because in UniKL, not only we want to create champions but our champions are noble and honourable. That is when we can proudly say, we are UniKL!"

YB Datuk Dr. Adham Baba meanwhile advised the athletes on the importance of believing in achieving greater heights, "When you believe that you are the best, automatically your mind and body condition itself to be the best. You train harder to be the best, you run faster, you become stronger, just because you believe that you are the best. As soon as you are happy with mediocrity, you will condition your mind and body to work to "achieve" mediocrity. So always think and most importantly believe that you are the best! Only then you will become true champions." The event also witnessed YB Datuk Dr Adham handing over the official flag to UniKL Contingent's Assistant Chef-de-Mission, Encik Muhamad Nurazam Abdul Ghani from Campus Lifestyle Division flanked by SUKIPT 2016 official mascots.

Also present at the dinner were UniKL Deputy President (Student Development and Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Dr. Khairanum Subari, Dean of UniKL MITEC, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Mansor Salleh and General Manager, Campus Lifestyle Division, Encik Jaldin Ahmad.

In SUKIPT 2014, with a total of 80 athletes competing in 6 sports disciplines, UniKL bagged 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals from Pencak Silat, Taekwando and Rugby respectively. This edition sees UniKL targeting a 22 medal haul from 24 sports disciplines.

Wishing all our SUKIPT 2016 athletes best of luck and make UniKL proud!
